String Explorer is Back!!
We are excited to announce the return of String Explorer available for students in PEAK! Students will have the opportunity to study violin, viola, cello, or bass during PEAK hours at McGuire Elementary in Mt. Pleasant, MI!

Who is Running the Program?
The American String Teachers Association (ASTA) student chapter at CMU will be teaching the string classes on Fridays from 5-6 PM at McGuire Elementary beginning Friday, October 25, 2024.
All of the teachers are music majors, most being music education students.
The program in organized and overseen by Professors Jamie Fiste and Keith Dodson.
Who Can Participate?
All students grades 3-6 are welcome to participate!
Length of the Program
The length of the program will be until the end of the school year 2024-2025.
Concerts!
Students will present a short concert at the end of the semester. Typically, the concerts are held at McGuire Elementary during String Explorer time to avoid scheduling difficulties.
Cost
There is no cost to participate except a possible rental instrument ($22 - $42 per month depending on the instrument) and a book purchase around $12.99. The instruction is entirely free.
Rental instruments are available through Marshall Music in Lansing at $22/month (violin/viola) or $42/month (cello).
The rentals from Marshall music include a complete insurance plan, repairs, maintenance, free exchanges and upgrades.
Renting an Instrument
Please read instructions carefully.
First, please follow this sizing guide for a properly sized instrument.
When filling out the rental form, select "No school affiliation" and indicate in the notes towards the bottom that the rental is for String Explorer.
Please select Essential Elements as the music book. The book will be delivered with the instrument.
The Marshall rental instruments will be delivered to CMU and we will bring them to String Explorer. We will email you when the instruments arrive. If you prefer, they can mail the instrument to your home for an added cost.

- Fill out and sign the liability release.
- Take a pic or scan the liability release form and email it to fiste1ja@cmich.edu
